Tape & Void V2 is a tape machine and a reverb built at full depth — four saturation curves, a complete wow/flutter/scrape model, four reverb algorithms, a spectral processor, an eight-slot modulation matrix and oversampling to 8x.
It opens on a page with three knobs. That is the design rather than a compromise: everything is reachable, almost none of it is in your way. You can use this plugin for a year without opening the second page, and you can spend an afternoon on the tape transport alone.
It installs alongside Tape & Void, not over it. Its own plugin code, its own bundle, its own name in your plugin list. Every session you have already made keeps loading V1, with V1’s exact sound, permanently.
The first page drives all three at once. The DEEP page opens each one up.
Four saturation curves with bias and trim. Wow, flutter and scrape under an AGE macro. Head bump and HF roll-off that follow tape speed at 7.5, 15 or 30 ips. Dropouts, print-through, hiss and hum with era-appropriate spectra, azimuth error, head crosstalk, a damped tape delay, and a transport section with an automatable reel stop.
V1’s ambient stage, kept and extended — the auto-swell that blooms picked notes in from nothing, the detuned ensemble and the breathing formant, now with variable voice count, spread, formant blend and swell depth.
Four reverb algorithms, Classic being V1’s FreeVerb bit for bit. Freeze, momentary and eternal holds, shimmer, a granular cloud, and the spectral void — STFT band gates with tilt and blur, for tails that thin by frequency rather than by level. The decay curve is a gravity curve you drag by hand.
Four routing modes with a morph control between them, so chain order is itself automatable. An eight-slot mod matrix: 3 LFOs, 2 envelope followers, sample & hold, 4 macros and 3 MIDI sources across about 65 destinations. Oversampling to 8x with a separate offline-render setting, three quality tiers, and a lookahead limiter.
Grouped so your DAW’s automation list stays readable. Undo and redo cover parameter changes as well as preset loads.
Different plugin code and bundle ID. Old sessions keep loading V1 untouched. V1’s 50 presets are included with their values unchanged, and V1 sessions migrate forward automatically.
The offline suite null-tests against a frozen copy of the V1 engine and requires 0.00 dB of difference. It came back exact on macOS and Windows independently — two compilers, same result.
Driven by a lock-free snapshot of the real DSP state, so they show what the engine is doing rather than an animation of it.
Aspect locked, with the size and the page you were on remembered per instance.
A hover popup that restates a control’s own label is noise. The ? button turns them on if you want them.
V1’s fifty with their values untouched, plus seventy new ones grouped by what you are reaching for. Searchable and tagged, with favourites and a randomise that respects per-section locks.
Save your own alongside them — they land in your user folder and survive updates.
On Mac, unzip and drop the .component into
~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and the .vst3 into
~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3. On Windows, copy the .vst3 into
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. Then rescan in your DAW and it appears
under Award Audio Tools. A step-by-step INSTALL.txt is in the zip.
Yes — Tape & Void V2 installs as a VST3 on both Mac and Windows. On Mac you also get an Audio Unit (AU) and a Standalone app in the same download. There is no VST2 build and no AAX build, so Tape & Void V2 does not load in Pro Tools.
Anything that hosts VST3 or Audio Units — Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, Bitwig, GarageBand and Luna are all covered. Logic and GarageBand use the AU; the rest use the VST3. There's also a Standalone app on Mac if you just want to plug in and play without opening a DAW.
Both. The Mac build is a Universal binary that runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1 through M4) and Intel, on macOS 10.15 or newer, and it's Developer-ID signed and notarised by Apple, so there's no Gatekeeper warning. The Windows build is 64-bit VST3 for Windows 10 or newer. One purchase covers both — the zip contains the Mac and Windows builds together.
Tape & Void V2 ships with 120 factory presets, grouped into 6 categories. You can save your own alongside them, and they travel with the project the same way any other plugin state does.
No. $79 a one-off purchase with no subscription, no iLok and no dongle — you download it straight after checkout, updates are free, and the licence covers the computers you own. Whatever you make with it is entirely yours.
